店の名は、歌舞伎『義経千本桜』に登場する魔法の鼓 — 初音の鼓 から いただきました。人形遣いと芝居小屋でにぎわった人形町の路地に、 ふさわしい名前だと先代は申しておりました。
The shop takes its name from Hatsune no Tsuzumi, the magic drum from the kabuki play Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura — a fitting borrowing for a side street in Ningyōchō, the old district of puppet-makers and theaters. Since 1837 — through Tenpō, Meiji, Taishō, Shōwa, Heisei and Reiwa — the same corner, the same agar, the same slow afternoons.
